October 2, 2011:
Happy October everyone!
Well, what an eventful week or two it’s been, to say the least. Swamp Drive played at the Peachtree Lounge on the 24th, and it was a pretty good show. Smaller crowd than I was hoping for, but everyone that was there had a good time, so I’ll take it! Most everything at the show went off without a hitch, but there was a “Spinal Tap” moment too: when I got there, I noticed on the electronic billboard that they had us billed as “Southern Drawl” instead of Swamp Drive...oh well, I guess that may happen from time to time. Our old singer showed up to watch for a little while too, but I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. Hopefully he’s doing well.
Last Thursday saw Train Of Thought do a “reunion” show at the open mic night at Little Hoolies. Mike, Fred and myself had been talking about doing it for a few weeks, and we decided the week before to go for it. We went up there, and I have to say, it sounded like it had been only a few weeks since we had last shared a stage together, not the 3-4 YEARS it had actually been! We had a great time, played well (thankfully!), and we all realized the chemistry that we had was still there. Nothing’s official yet, but there is a pretty good chance the project that Fred and I were going to do just may be the return of TOT! We’ll have to see, as soon as I know anything I’ll let y’all know...
On the Swamp Drive front, there isn’t any news to tell you about at this point. The band is taking the month of October to retool the setlist and line up some more shows. The retooling of the setlist looks to be a major one, I don’t even know at this point what the new show will be like. Dave has a few ideas, and we’ll have to see what will become of them. No word on when we will reconvene in the studio to finish up the re-doing of the vocals for the album songs either at this point. We’re in the crazy time for me at work, so my time is going to be a little limited for the next few weeks I think.
The project with Mike and Rich is moving along still. I have a couple songs that I have to put lyrics and vocals down on, and then we will be sending more music back and forth between us. The lyrical theme that is going through the songs is fleshing out really well, and I think there is some really cool stuff going on in this...
Deb Desilets sent me a track to play around with this last week. and I’m planning on doing some work on it this week. I have to see what I can add to it to make it cooler than it already is. Should be fun!
On the solo front, I am just getting to the point where i can start going through the ideas that I have been sitting on to see what is there. I have an idea in mind of where I want to go, I have to see if the music I have sitting around is the right vehicle to get me where I’m going.
Exciting things in the works, as you can see...
