September 18, 2011:
Well, here we are in the middle of September already, and it’s been sorta quiet around here. Swamp Drive played a couple weeks ago up at Gatsby’s Davie, and the show went pretty good. It was actually our first “official” show under the new name, and we sounded really good even with the fairly long layoff that we ended up having over the summer. Our next show is going to be this upcoming Saturday at the Peachtree Lounge in Homestead. We haven’t played a show down south in a long time, as most of our shows in the last year or so have been up in Broward, and we’ve had people asking us when we were going to be playing down in Miami and Homestead, and now we can finally say that we’re playing down here again! Dave is working on trying to get us some more shows down here as well as keeping our presence up in Broward. Texas Rose Saloon is reopening next weekend, and we hope to have some news about our return there soon as well.
I’m already starting to plan out my next “solo” album project. It is actually an album that I started a couple years ago, and have yet to finish it. I’m going to be going through the songs that I’ve started for it and I’m going to finish up the most promising ones and add new stuff to it as I’m going. I think I’m finally in the headspace I need to be in to get them done finally. Looking forward to working on them.
I’m also working on my “archive” project with my compositions from back in the day. Now that the “Cityscape” cycle of songs is completed, I’m turning my attention to another cycle of songs that I did in college, as well as adding a new piece to it. This cycle of songs is collectively called “Defying the Laws Of Tradition.” There are 2 string quartets, a woodwind quartet, and a saxophone quartet. The fifth one that will be added to the cycle is something I started a few years ago, and it is a “quartet of quartets.” In other words, I’m using the groups of instruments from the first 4 pieces, with another 4 instruments. The piece sounds pretty interesting so far, and I hope to finish it up by the end of the year.
Fred from Loveproof and I are going to be doing some shows pretty soon, and we’re also going to do some writing as well. I have to call him this week and see what we can set up. More news there as I get it...
At this point, that’s all that is going on here, but I have a good feeling that things will get a little busier here very soon, stay tuned...
THAT IS ALL...TB
